| Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) – A Chinese Medicine Perspective |
| Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a condition that is characterised by long term exhaustion, muscle weakness, depression and sleep disturbances. Patients suffering from CFS feel so tired that they are unable to do even half of their normal daily activities. This fatigue persists, even with more rest. The fatigue may last as little as a month, or it may persist for many years. CFS affects twice as many women as men. The cause of CFS is unknown, but it is believed that viral infections and/or immune system reaction may be responsible. Risk factors include extreme stress or anxiety, flu-like illness that doesn’t completely go away, and poor eating habits. |

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) – A Chinese Medicine Perspective |
| |
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable disease of the nervous system in which communication between the brain and other parts of the body is disrupted. Its effects can range from relatively mild to devastating. The symptoms may mysteriously occur and then disappear. In the worst cases, a person with MS may be unable to write, speak, or walk. |

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) occurs when muscles in the intestines contract faster or slower than normal. This causes pain, cramping, colic, gas, as well as sudden bouts of diarrhoea and/or constipation. There are two types of IBS: |
| |
- Spastic colon IBS: characterised by constipation, diarrhoea, or both, this form of IBS is also often accompanied with pain in the digestive tract after eating.
- Painless diarrhoea IBS: this form of IBS is characterised by the sudden onset of diarrhoea during or after meals, or upon waking.

Fibromyalgia (FMS) - A Chinese Medicine Perspective |
| |
Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterised by fatigue, pain in the muscles, ligaments and tendons, and multiple tender points on the body. While the exact cause remains unknown, there is evidence that people with fibromyalgia may be more sensitive to pain because of a malfunction with the body’s usual pain perception processes. More women than men have fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia, while different for everyone who has it, tends to come and go throughout life. Although it can be debilitating for some people, it is not degenerative or life-threatening, and symptoms can be managed with professional and self care. |
